The program was a part of a week-long celebration of World Environment day sponsored by the US Embassy in Nepal, USAID, WWF, Care Nepal, the Federation of Community Forestry Users and the National Trust for Nature Conservation to engage youth (aged 16 to 28) in a talk/workshop on environmentally sustainable cooking and heating sources. A practical demonstration was given on how to make briquettes using recycled paper and waste materials. Youth also get the opportunity to make some them.
Applying briquette lessons acquired from the Foundation for Sustainable Technologies, embassy staff demonstrated the ease of creating an alternative fuel source from everyday materials like paper. By showing young Nepalis in the environmental sector how to create a briquette, the hope is that they will introduce this technique to rural populations served by the NGOs.
Active participation of TGG members was observed throughout the session.
