Policiy Discussion on Green Cities : Sustainable Urban Development

Policy Discourse with Kathmandu’s Parliamentarians, Minister of Law, and Minister of Environment on the issue of green cities: sustainable urban development. This event was designed to be a follow-up to a policy discourse that Kathmandu’s Parliamentarians have already had in March 2014 in a closed-door setting. In line with the principles of the Consensus document, at this event, we pushed for Policy makers to make a public commitment to pursuing issues that they have already been oriented in at the March event, only this time to do so publicly and with a timeline and benchmarks set in place. Some of the things that could be proposed and enacted relatively fast are adding three new watershed projects in the hills around Kathmandu valley, and other policy solutions that were outlined in March on issues of sustainable urban development. Topics on which policy briefs have already been produced after the March meeting include Urban Air Quality, Urban Water Management, Urban Waste Management, and Urban Energy Security.

Five TGG Members participated in the event along with fellow representatives of US Embassy youth Council, representatives of Clean Energy Nepal and others.

Discussion was carried out with Hon. Gagan Thapa, Bhusan Tuladhar (UN Habitat), Kanak Mani Dixit (Himal Khabarpatrika), Padma Sundar JoshiMinister of Law Narhari Acharya, Minister of Environment, and Members of Parliament from Kathmandu valley, Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Chief Secretary of the Government…incomplete.
